About God’s Miracles Book — How it all Started…

Who am I? Mostly, who am I that God picked me to quit my Corporate America job to better dedicate myself to writing about, finding and collecting stories on Miracles that are happening in today’s time? Am I a Saint? HARDLY! Probably about as far from Sainthood as I could possibly get. So why did He pick me to do this? You got me. I guess the important thing is that He asked me to do it and I said, “Yes!” Well, not right away, but as soon as the still, small Voice became a roar. (God seems to use the most unusual people to do His work for Him.)

How did it all start? Well… it began one day in the Fall of 2009 with a still, small Voice that said, “write a book.” I said, “Uh huh.”

Then, the whisper became louder and I heard (inside, not vocally), “Write a book.” I said, “Sure.”

As I tried to ignore what I was hearing in my heart, the still, small Voice started to get more persistent. “Write a book. Write a book. Write a book!” And I sighed and said, “Gee, that would be nice if I only had the time. I would write a book.” I continued ignoring the still, small Voice (as much as was humanly possible).

I was on my way out from work to catch a bus and heard loud and clear, WRITE A BOOK!” I said, “Ok, ok, I’ll write a book.” Acting more like a snotty, spoiled 13-year-old, I marched back and grabbed my laptop for the bus ride home. (Looking back, I’d like to slap her!)

I sat on the bus, opened my laptop, looked up and said, “What about?” Then I sat there for about 20 minutes before I heard, “Write about the first Miracle that ever happened in your life.” I immediately remembered the time I was 9 years old and almost drowned while swimming in the Gulf after a hurricane. I started typing my memories into the little black laptop. When I was done with my “homework” assignment and thought this wasn’t going to make much of a book, I said, “Ok, I did that, now what?” He said, “Write about the next Miracle that happened to you.” I flashed back to the time I was 13 years old and had a large tumor in my saliva gland that stuck out from the side of my face that disappeared the same day I was supposed to have surgery. I continued writing stories in this way until I found that I could tell my whole life story in Miracles!  How easily we forget just how Blessed we’ve been and how often I had forgotten to thank God for all that He has done in my life. I’m usually asking for something for me or someone else — like God’s a demented version of Santa Clause or a Genie in a Bottle.

A few months later, before I was completely finished with my book, I was riding the bus again and “just so happened” (I don’t believe in coincidence anymore) to sit next to a woman that was going to the Med Center for her 28th? chemo treatment. She was 46 years old, sick and tired. During our conversation, I told her about the tumor that disappeared when I was 13. She said that I should write that down and leave it in the waiting room so people waiting on treatment could be inspired and have some hope. She said that there were a lot of stories like mine posted at MD Anderson where she was receiving her chemo. Then she said that it would be great if I would include other people’s stories in the book. Me, being the great woman of faith and Spiritually that I am, first whined in my thoughts, “But then it won’t be about me anymore.” Like it was ever about me. I know, I still have a long way to go. I’m working on it, ok? And my second thought was, that’s a great idea!

About 20 minutes later after walking into work, I ran into a co-worker who was asking about my dog, Rocko. I was telling her about the Miracle that happened to him. Yes, even my dog had a Miracle happen — actually more than one!

She said, “Wow, you should write that down and share it with people. You need to write a book!” I told her I was in the process of doing that same thing and she said, “It would be great if you included other people’s stories. I sure would buy it!” She is battling MS. I felt in my heart that this was what I was to do. Start collecting other people’s stories.

That was back in 2009 and I’m finally getting the website up and running. It’s been a true journey since then. It’s an incredible story of “bread crumbs” that I’ve followed that finally got me here today, writing this article. If you’ve read this far and are interested, see the article on “Following My Heart (Shaped Breadcrumbs).”

God Bless YOU!
